Made Status continues to raise the bar not for anyone else, but for itself. As we continue to promote the Made Status vision worldwide, we work with inspirational, hardworking, streetwear/hiphop enthusiasts who understand the vision and what our movement represents.
Made Status has recently linked up with the highly talented, widely published fashion photographer-videographer Ryan Ason.
Sup homie, what’s happening? Thanks for taking the time to do the interview. Can you tell us a little bit about yourself?
What’s up, bro? Thanks for the opportunity! IDK where to start… LOL just messing. I’m a full-time visual artist. The guy behind the camera that’s fortunate enough to do it 24/7!
Man it’s really dope that you are from Detroit, a very interesting city that’s home to Eminem, Big Sean, Kid Rock and D12, to name a few. It was once the powerhouse car manufacturing hub for the U.S., but your city is now in a real struggle. Can you tell us about this?
Yeah, Detroit has been in a rough patch for a little while. The Great Depression hit us hard and things just started going south. By 2010 over 45% of manufacturing jobs were lost to bankruptcy. After automobile sales went down, people were getting laid off left and right. Wasn’t looking good for people until a couple years ago.
Man, can you tell us about the community side of things? You mentioned that there are some local billionaires who are developing the city, and there is a real sense of community among the people. What is the master plan for Detroit now?
Man… the community here is the strongest I’ve ever met! I was talking to a local business owner who said when things were looking bad for him, the neighbouring business owner and competitor helped him get things going again. People just have the real “Detroit vs. Everybody” mindset that keeps the city strong! Along with the help of Detroit native and billionaire investor Dan Gilbert, Warren Buffet and a few real estate investment firms, the city and people here in Detroit are making a comeback that’s one for the books!
Made Status is all about the “From nothing to something” state of mind. Detroit has one of the highest murder rates and lowest income levels in America – can you tell us about how our message has resonated with you?
It’s tough to say. Once we get back to thriving Detroit again, it will be a good message for everyone. Once you get knocked down you just have to get back up.
When we first spoke and reached out to each other, I remember you saying that you have been blessed to do what you love full time. That really resonated with me. Can you elaborate on that?
I truly am blessed to be able to network and meet talented individuals all over, such as yourself and the Made Status family. Being born and raised in the suburbs of Chesterfield, Virginia… Shoutout to everybody in RVA! I had to get out and try something new. Working on my clothing line with my buddies a while back, we needed pictures of products. That’s when I bought my first camera, the infamous Rebel XTI LOL. And that’s when I really found my passion in the creative world.
Man, we have to give credit where credit is due. Looking at your work, from a content point of view it’s really on point, and you’re producing dope work. It’s obvious that you love what you do. Can you explain your style of work and where you draw inspiration from?
I really appreciate that, bro! Hearing that always inspires me! My style varies. I’m a commercial/fashion photographer full time but I love to shoot it all, from models to products all the way to landscapes. I get my inspiration from the world around me, and Detroit never fails to inspire me.
How exactly has the Made Status message connected with you? Made Status is based in Australia, which is 14,734km (9,155 miles) from Detroit, how has this all unfolded?
Man, Made Status is where it’s at! The name instantly stood out to me. I’ve been on the hustle for a while, so when I saw this brand I instantly connected with the motto “From nothing to something”. With the quality and designs… this is the brand for me.
Made Status is very selective with who they work with, but these partnerships really look like the start of big things, as Made Status continues to connect with its US-based customers growing regularly. What have you got planned in 2016? What’s your vision with Made Status?
We definitely have big things in the works for 2016 together! Really, this New Year is all about staying connected with everyone and seeing what we can do as a team. I’m looking to expand my relationship with the Made Family and take things as far as possible.
Man thanks so much for your time. Where can we find you at online?
Anytime bro, I really appreciate you putting this together and I look forward to what’s to come! My website is www.ryanasonphoto.com. You can find me on Instagram and Facebook also at @ryanasonphoto. Till next time, Fam, see you soon!
